FGLI Conference support
The Legacy of FGLI Conferences
Student-organized FGLI conferences like 1vyG, AL1GN, and the Stanford FLI Conference have served as springboards for grassroots campus FGLI movements. These platforms have played instrumental roles in inspiring FGLI students to action. In sharing stories of adversity and survival across campuses, attendees have realized how similar their experiences are and gained the knowledge and social clout to challenge the status quo in their own institutions. Their renewed belief and thirst for change have given rise to book-lending libraries, food pantries, meal sharing initiatives, and class confessions pages. Attendees of the first-ever 1vyG Conference at Brown in 2014 are now leaders of national organizations such as FLIP National and EdMobilizer. They now drive institutional change as some of the most vibrant alumni of their institutions. In 2018, we sponsored and put together the conference apps for the Penn 1vyG and AL1GN conferences respectively. These apps brought a higher level of engagement – attendees were able to view profiles of fellow attendees and share experiences about their work in the bulletin; alumni seized the opportunity to offer advice and recruit students for their companies. We therefore present below a more detailed breakdown of how the conference apps made these two conferences much more engaging.
